Job Description
Job Description
A warm and welcoming family relocating from Fulham to a private estate in Hertfordshire is seeking an experienced, engaging, and proactive nanny/governess to support the care, education, and overall development of their two children, a boy aged 8 and a girl aged 10.
They are moving to a large country estate located between Watford and Kings Langley. The property consists of five buildings and extensive grounds, including swimming pools, tennis courts, play areas, and recreational facilities. Due to the rural location, the estate is situated approximately four miles from the nearest train station and is not accessible by public transport; therefore, a confident driver is essential.
The role will be Monday to Friday, typically from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, with occasional weekend support required. During school hours, once all child-related duties have been completed, the nanny will have personal downtime. The position will focus on supporting the children’s education, school routines, homework, extracurricular activities, organisation, and overall wellbeing while creating a fun, nurturing, and engaging environment.
The daughter is a sociable and outgoing child who enjoys conversation, people, and theatre. She attends theatrical school activities and enjoys creative pursuits. The son is energetic and enjoys cars, video games, and learning guitar. It has been suggested that he may be neurodivergent; however, he has not received an official diagnosis, a background working with SEN children would be advantageous. The ideal candidate will be able to adapt their approach to suit each child’s individual personality, strengths, and needs.
This is a fully staffed home. Therefore, the successful candidate should be a positive team player who enjoys working within a collaborative household environment and can communicate effectively with other staff members.
The family is seeking someone who can genuinely connect with the children, participate in play and activities at their level, while also providing maturity, guidance, structure, and educational support when required. The ideal candidate will be friendly, down-to-earth, professional, and be a genuine team player, who will fit naturally into their relaxed family dynamic. The nanny may be expected to cook for the children and prepare meals as and when required.
The role will involve school runs and transporting the children to activities. An electric vehicle and a 4×4 vehicle will be provided for professional use.
The family travels periodically and would welcome a candidate who is happy to accompany them on annual ski trips to Switzerland and occasional summer travel.
The current nanny, who has been with the family in London, is not relocating to the countryside but will remain in place during the transition period to provide a thorough handover and support the successful candidate. The family has previously employed long-term nannies and highly values the role.
The position is scheduled to commence in October 2026, with a one-to-two-week handover period alongside the current nanny. Prior to a formal contract offer, shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a paid trial to ensure a positive connection between the family, children, and candidate.
