What is a live-out nanny?

A live out or otherwise known as a daily nanny will be Employed by you to work at your home with your children, usually between Monday – Friday from anywhere between 8-10 hours daily. Unlike a live-in nanny, a live-out nanny will have their own accommodation within a reasonable commuting distance to travel to your home to nanny for your children daily. Due to commuting and other commitments a live-out nanny will usually have a set start and finish time and any additional hours/babysitting must be agreed in advance. There may be a little less flexibility than a live-in nanny. However, a daily nanny is often happy to be flexible when respected in their role and given advanced notice for additional hours, paid for the additional time, or given time off in lieu. Something that should be stipulated in the Employment Contract prior to the live-out nanny starting their role within your family.

What is expected from a live-out nanny?

A live-out or daily nanny will carry out the same duties as a live-in nanny. Their role is to support the overall wellbeing of your children and allow you to work or go about your affairs with the peace of mind that you have an excellent nanny taking care of your children. A live-out nanny can work as a sole charge nanny, whereby she takes care of the children alone or she can work alongside you in a shared care role. This is all dependant on the individual requirements of the family.

A live-out nanny’s daily duties will include some of the following (but not limited to);

• Following the routine, you have in place for your children or offering advice on alternative routines if the Employer asks.
• Feeding, weaning, and making healthy and simple meals for your child.
• Dressing, bathing, and ensuring good hygiene.
• Potty training assistance if needed and required.
• Ensure the nursery and child’s room is clean, tidy, and organised, along with your child’s laundry.
• The live-out nanny will organise fun play dates, engaging and age-appropriate activities inside and outside of the home, including day trips to local child friendly attractions.
• A live-out nanny plans your child’s day to allow them to reach their developmental milestones, including a range of activities which will allow them to gain confidence in themselves. Such as, arts and crafts, role play, building and being creative, reading, singing, storytelling and socialising.
• A live-out nanny may also be able teach your child another language, a musical instrument, assist with school homework and drive your children to different activities. Although this is dependent on the candidate and your requirements.

What are the benefits of hiring a live-out nanny?

By hiring a live-out nanny you can maintain a professional, friendly, and separate relationship with your nanny that offers many of the same benefits of a live-in nanny, although providing you both with more personal space and privacy. By hiring a live-out daily nanny, you need not worry about providing accommodation within your home or on the grounds of your estate. The nanny will pay for her own accommodation and live within a reasonable commute to your home. A live-out nanny will know all the best places locally to you to ensure they have places to take your children that are safe and a happy place for the to socialise with other children and nannies.

Should I hire a live-out nanny or live-in nanny?

There is no right or wrong answer to this, and it really depends on your family circumstances and how you see the daily running of your household. With regards to the duties of a live-out or live-in nanny, they remain the same. Your children will experience excellent care and the only thing that differs is the location of where the nanny lives along with the rate of pay.
