Why hire a maternity nanny?

A Maternity Nanny is qualified and experienced in supporting, educating and caring for post-natal and more frequently first time parents and their newborn baby(ies). The Maternity Nanny will use her education and experience to guide the parents in all areas concerning nursery duties and how to handle any baby related illnesses such as reflux or colic. The Maternity Nanny allows the new parents to have some rest during the first precious weeks/months after the birth of their baby(ies).
Maternity Nannies will generally work on a 24-hour schedule over 5-6 days per week. The Maternity Nanny will ensure all nursery duties are carried out, including assisting/advising on feeding whether the baby(ies) are breast or bottle fed. She will also take care of all the baby(ies) items including clothing, feeding equipment/accessories, toys and ensure the nursery is kept clean and tidy with a high level of hygiene. One of the main goals of a Maternity Nanny is to get the baby(ies) into a structured sleeping and feeding routine that the parents can then go forward with after the Maternity Nanny has fulfilled her contracted period.

Duties of a Maternity Nanny

To provide all aspects of care to newborn babies

A Maternity Nanny is employed by parents with newborn babies to provide essential physical support and advice on establishing routines, feeding, bathing, dressing, care with common baby symptom such as reflux.

To offer and provide support to the parents where necessary

A Maternity Nanny is there to provide emotional support to the family where needed and necessary, including a Mother suffering with Post Natal Depression (PND). She also allows the parents some time to regain energy and have some time for themselves in those somewhat challenging first few months.

To advise on different baby feeding approaches

Where necessary the Maternity Nanny will advise on breast feeding and bottle feeding, depending on which route the family have chosen to take.

To ensure all aspects of hygiene are taken care of

A Maternity Nanny will ensure all elements of hygiene with regards to the baby is taken care of with ensuring their equipment such as bottles and dummies are adequately sterilized, clothing is washed and the nursery is kept clean.

Sole-charge care when needed

If the parents of the newborn need to leave the home for any reason the maternity nanny will provide sole-charge care and take care of all duties during this period.

Working hours of a Maternity Nanny

The working hours of a Maternity Nanny very much depend on the requirements of the family. A full cover Maternity Nurse works 24/6 for up to three months. A daytime Maternity Nanny is expected to work up to 12 hours per day over 6 days per week. A night-time Maternity Nanny usually works 12 hours over 6 days per week at night times to allow for the parents to continue to have a regular sleep pattern and assist with night time routine, feeding and comforting the newborn.
